Dixon said. The agreement will see the new salaries being paid in December with a retroactive portion representing 50-percent of the amount due between April and November this year. It will also cover an amount due from April 2007 to March 31st this year which will be paid next June. Mr. Dixon said government will be officially informed of the decision shortly and that he expects to put ink to paper by early next week. Cabinet last week approved a 15 billion dollar wage package for the more than 20-thousand public sector teachers. The new wage package will result in salaries being increased to 80 percent of what is paid to teachers in the private sector.



Britain will win the war against the Taleban in Afghanistan, new Defence Secretary John Hutton has said.
Writing in the News of the World, he said it could not be won by military means alone, but security, governance and reconstruction were also important.
Mr Hutton visited Afghanistan and Iraq earlier this month after replacing Des Browne in the cabinet reshuffle.
He said he accepted UK troops had not always had the best kit and committed to ensuring they would in the future.
'Dangerous and irrational'
In his article, Mr Hutton said: 'We owe it to the memory of the 121 UK forces who have died in Afghanistan not to follow the advice of our critics and simply walk away
