'The jetty will be used by fishermen from three governorates - Central, Capital and Northern,' said council financial, administrative and legislative committee chairman Sadiq Al Basri.
'Mr Bin Rajab said that the bay zoning was not finalised and that it was unknown that the plot of land can be earmarked for such projects.
'We finalised the zoning earlier this year and were waiting for the Cabinet to give the map we drew the go-ahead, which means we are aware of what we are doing.'
Mr Al Basri said that the Works Ministry was waiting for the matter to be settled with the commission, which he said was done in record time.
'The municipal plot of land will be exchanged with the government plot of land and we will work to buy the small privately-owned one to add to the project. The council has already received the blessing of Dr Al Ka'abi,' he said.
'We won't allow the project to be delayed any longer, considering that the fishermen have no place left for them.'
