To the delight of the borough's motorists, the nine-strong cabinet of the Tory-run council yesterday voted unanimously to scrap the fixed-point speed cameras and end the flow of fines - which are paid directly to the Government.
The decision to axe speed-traps came after the council revealed the Treasury were receiving the cash from fines while the council were forced to pay 32,000 for the cameras' upkeep.

LONDON: The mayor of Montreal and two federal and provincial cabinet ministers met Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone on Thursday to seek reinstatment of the Canadian Grand Prix to the 2009 race calendar.
The race was dropped for the first time since 1987 earlier this month when Ecclestone announced the schedule for next season. The F1 chief says Montreal organizers have not paid their debts to his organization for the last three years.
Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay, Quebec economic development minister Raymond Bachand and federal minister of international trade Michael Fortier flew to London to meet with Ecclestone and explain why the race should be put back on the 17-race schedule.
'We have a better understanding of the issues,' Tremblay said after the meeting
