As we consider our choices, we must all be aware of the long-range effect on our way of life. How ready are we to allow the federal government to control our lives even more? Are we prepared to accept a Socialist form of government? How willing are we to accept the ways of France, England, Canada and even Russia? Do you really believe we can benefit by changing from our capitalistic state to one of Socialism?
This election, without a doubt, will have the most serious consequences of any in our lifetime. Since the 1930s, when President Roosevelt and his cabinet developed a plan to bring us out of the depression following World War II, we have continued to allow politics to change our governing powers to intrude into our lives. This has resulted in less individual responsibility and more dependence on our government. Entitlements expanded with every election. Promises of more and greater handouts have led to increased taxation on the working class, small business and the retired who have succeeded in their life's work

Typically, an opposition leader who accused a government of hyping a financial crisis such as this, who subtly and frequently shifted position on how to respond to it, or, whether he meant it or not, implied the Treasury Secretary should be sacked if he had misled cabinet, could expect to have his colours lowered for a while. Not Turnbull, who managed all three in a week.
