Senior ministers are secretly backing calls to scrap plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport, it has been claimed.
Some members of the Government are beginning to turn against the expansion scheme, Labour backbencher John Grogan said.
They had encouraged him to table an Early Day Motion calling for the proposals to be ditched, he said. The MP refused to name individuals.

KUWAIT: Gulf Bank's Chairman and Managing Director Bassam Al-Ghanim resigned yesterday following an emergency board meeting. He was replaced by his brother, the 61-year-old billionaire Qutaiba Al-Ghanim, who immediately moved to calm shareholder and customer fears. The board of directors wishes to confirm to all bank shareholders and customers that the bank's financial status is good and that all deposits and customers' accounts are safe and guaranteed,' said Al-Ghanim during a crowded meeting with the press at the bank's headquarters in downtown Kuwait City yesterday. He added that major shareholders are ready to pump in cash to shore up the bank's financial position if needed. Earlier in the day, the Cabinet approved a draft bill guaranteeing all deposits, announced Finance Minister Mustafa Al-Shamali. The bill still needs parliamentary approval. When asked by Kuwait Times about rumors of a merger with the National Bank of Kuwait, Al-Ghanim said he welcomed the idea
