remier Rodney MacDonald is trying to overrule Halifax regional councils rejection of a proposed downtown office building.
He said Thursday he has directed staff to find a way to make the Armour Groups proposed Waterside Centre project happen because growth in the downtown is important for both Halifax and Nova Scotia.
Its our intention to do everything we can to see this development move forward,' the premier said after a cabinet meeting.
He didnt talk specifics but said officials are looking at regulations and legislation.
Mr. MacDonald, who has been championing downtown development since last year, said he didnt like the Waterside Centre project being defeated on a tie vote, particularly since it didnt include new councillors elected in last Saturdays municipal election.
He said the timing of the rejection could hardly be worse, given the economic turmoil around the world. We have a situation where financial service companies and others (are) wanting to come to Halifax,' he said

eterborough City Council has announced that the service which has proved popular in past years will run from November 1 to December 27. Aimed at helping to ease traffic congestion in the run up to what is the busiest time of the year on the citys roads, the service will allow people to leave their car at specific sites and travel into town on the bus.Saturday services will be run from the Diligenta car park, in Lynch Wood, and from outside Perkins car park, in Oxney Road, to Queensgate Shopping Centre. The latter service will also stop at Midgate.To further ease city centre congestion, a Sunday park and ride service will begin on November 30 and operate until Sunday, December 21.
