THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The rules to regulate and control the proliferation of ayurvedic massage parlours have been framed and the law will come into force in the state from November 1. The Cabinet which met here on Wednesday passed the rules framed for the enactment of the law.
This is perhaps the first time that the State Government has decided to act tough against massage parlours which have enticed many quacks into the trade.
The law assumes significance as the State is witnessing the mushrooming of Ayurveda centres especially in and around major tourist destinations, without basic facilities and trained staff. Many centres have allegedly been functioning as beauty and massage parlours and indulging in clandestine activities bringing disrepute to Ayurveda and the State at large. The Kerala Ayurveda Health Centres (Licensing and Controlling) Bill was passed by the Assembly which was introduced by Health Minister P.K.Sreemathi in the last session
