INNSBRUCK, Austria - Austrian ski star Marlies Schild will miss the upcoming World Cup season after breaking her left leg in a training crash Thursday.
The Austrian ski federation said Schild crashed at the Rettenbachferner glacier in Tyrol province while preparing for the season-opening World Cup giant slalom race in Soelden, Austria, on Oct. 25. She broke her shinbone and fibula.
MOSCOW - The global financial crisis may affect investment in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, but the government will make sure preparations stay on schedule, a Russian cabinet official said Thursday.
Dmitry Kozak, the country's regional development minister, said while the crisis may scare off some investors, the cabinet will make sure that work isn't derailed.
SOFIA, Bulgaria - Bulgarian 1,500-metre runner Daniela Yordanova has been suspended for two years after testing positive for doping, the Bulgarian athletics federation said Thursday.
Yordanova tested positive for testosterone and related substances from an out-of-competition sample given in June in Sofia. The 32-year-old runner finished fifth at the 2004 Athens Olympics and fifth at the world championships in Valencia in March.
