He characterizes himself as 'not overwhelmed by ambition.' Still, former cabinet minister John Manley says he's considering entering the Liberal leadership race.
'I hear from a lot of people from different parts of the country that they would like me to run,' Manley said yesterday following a speech to the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.
'This is not something I've been craving. I'm really testing the water.'
Manley's first public statement on the topic since the Liberals' election-night crash places him in the company of a dozen potential leadership candidates.
While MPs Michael Ignatieff and Bob Rae are biding their time before announcing their ambitions, other names have also surfaced -- former New Brunswick premier Frank McKenna, former Newfoundland and Labrador premier Brian Tobin, former cabinet minister Martin Cauchon and former leadership contestants Gerard Kennedy and Martha Hall Findlay. MPs Dominic LeBlanc, Denis Coderre and Ruby Dhalla are also bruited, and David McGuinty, MP in Manley's former riding of Ottawa-South, is mulling his chances

'I haven't seen them in, I don't know. I think my wife can find them. But I know we have a cabinet somewhere in the garage.
'Eventually I'm going to give them to the Hall of Fame or something because they're just like old pieces of stuff. It's nice to see them sometimes. But after you get 'em, they're kind of a pain to keep up with.'
